Quick Homemade Tahini recipe

Tahini or Ardeh is a relish made of sesame seeds. It’s a major component of hummus. It can also be used as a dessert when mixed with syrup or honey. The possibilities how to use Tahini are endless! In addition, it is very simple and quick to make.


  • 100g hulled white sesame seeds
  • 2-3 tablespoons olive or sesame oil
  • 1 pinch salt (not necessary)  


Heat a skillet. Cook sesame seeds in the heated skillet for 3-4 minutes, until seeds start to change colour. Stir from time to time. Be very careful because seeds can easily burn. Transfer seeds to a plate and leave aside for few minutes to cool.

Pour the seeds to a food processor and blend until coarse mass (2-3 minutes).

What to do with Tahini?

The most common way to use Tahini is when making hummus. But it doesn’t end with hummus! You can also eat Tahini with fried or fresh vegetables. For example, Tahini goes very well with fried eggplants. Tahini is used as a sauce for fried or grilled meat dishes and other meals as well. Combine Tahini with sweet syrup or honey and you will get an incredible dessert!
